I first came across Jake Bugg right at the start of his career when he exploded on the music scene with the self-titled album ‘Jake Bugg’ at just 18 years old. The album went on to reach number one in the UK album charts in 2012. 

Over the last twelve years Bugg has released a further four studio albums, Shangri La, On My Own, Hearts That Strain and Saturday Night, Sunday Morning, all placed in the top ten album charts. 

Bugg released the single Zombieland taken from the new album A Modern Day Distraction. The single is about the working class having to “work to live” without a decent work-life balance, all the while the government keep increasing the retirement age. 

Earlier this year Jake also supported Liam Gallagher and Stone Roses guitarist John Squires as the pair teamed up on their own self-titled album. 

Arriving at the venue, I have to say that it’s good to see Jake visiting other cities on his ‘Your Town’ tour, as it gives fans further afield the chance to hear his vast catalogue of work.

I knew in advance that support for the night was coming from Jake himself with an acoustic set then he would return to play a full set with his band members Jack Atherton on Drums and Tom Roberson on bass.

I don’t really mind when bands don’t have a support band and opt to play acoustic set instead. I think it’s nice to see both sides of the artists and the fans get the opportunity to sample Jake’s overall talent by simply singing on his own and playing guitar. 

I always like photographing a Fat Sam’s as it always has a mixed aged group of fans and tonight it didn’t disappoint. You could also tell that the school holidays were on the go because an even younger generation of kids turned up in their droves for this gig. 

Bugg was on stage at 7.50 for his acoustic set and from the off, the packed venue greeted Jake with a thunderous reception as he took to the stage.

Hold Tight and Simple As This, ends a very impressive first performance of the night.

After a short break he was greeted back on stage by the screaming Dundee crowd, but this time he had his bass player and drummer alongside him. 

The fans were eager to get dancing to some energetic songs and Trouble Town kicked the second session off followed by,

Messed Up Kids.

Simple Pleasure and All I Need, brought the night to a close.

There wasn’t much interaction with the crowd throughout both sets but the fans didn’t need that, they were only there for the music and a bit of dancing and that’s exactly what they got.
